The best bench in the world and its view of infinity
There are dozens of places in Galicia that can boast dream views, but some time ago it was decided that this bench on the cliffs of Loiba was one of the great must-sees. Since some visitors engraved the inscription “the best bench in the world” on its back, since UNESCO popularised it with a beautiful night photograph by photographer Daniel Caxete, thousands of visitors have come to see it for themselves.
This bench, located on the coast of Loiba, in the municipality of Ortigueira, is considered the most beautiful bench in the world. This expression may feel inaccurate, because the bench in question is a bench and nothing more, just like any other. What does characterise it are the impressive views that stretch out before it and the feeling of infinity that the traveller who sits on it experiences.

In recent years, the place has become overcrowded with tourists. But who can blame them? Everyone wants to take in the breathtaking views of the coastline, which stretches as far as the eye can see.
The calm or rough sea, the breathtaking cliffs, the beaches, the surrounding fields. The crashing of the waves against the rocks, the sound of the wind, the cape of Estaca de Bares, which is the most northerly point of the peninsula, the one that divides the Cantabrian Sea from the Atlantic. Perhaps the beench is not the most beautiful, but the place where it has settled has all the necessary to conquer the traveller.

The surrounding area can complete what would be a completely sensory visit, as hiking trails extend in all directions. There is also the famous and impressive beach of Las Catedrales, whose geological formations look like something out of an impossible dream. This place of Galicia is worth a visit at any time of the year, at any time of the day. But just one more piece of advice: it is better enjoy this place at sunset. It will be unforgettable, that’s for sure.
