La Seu d’Urgell and its surroundings have historically depended on the ranching, hunting and agriculture. Recipes such as the mountain stews are the most characteristic of the gastronomic offer, which you will be able to eat along with the Pa Pagès Català, a product with I.G.P.. Here you will be able to try the rice from Urgell, difrent types of hunting meats (such as wild boar, deer and quail), the escudella (a typical stew from the region), sesonal mushrooms, snails a la llanura, trinxai (a dish made of cabbage, potatoes, bacon and garlic), the pork paws, cod stews and grilled meats such as the calf, which has its own IGP.
Without a doubt, the best thing to eat in La Seu d’Urgell is the cheese and the butter from l’Alt de Urgell and la Cerdanya, both products protected with the stamp D.O.P.. Generally, the cheese factories of the region offer the possibility of visiting the production process of their products. Also, during the month of October the Fair of the Artisan Cheese from the Pyrenees takes place in the village.
