La Alberca is a small town that’s very close to the Natural Park of Las Batuecas in the Sierra de Francia. This beautiful location is perfect for spending a few days away from the haste and noise of the city. In addition, its famed architecture was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument. This Serrano enclave is home to some of the best regional products, with traditional ingredients converted into true feats of gastronomic tourism, such as the Jamón de Guijuelo with D.O.P and the ebutidos serranos sausages.

In the cuisine of La Alberca you can find dishes from throughout the province. If you want to know what to eat in La Alberca, the maneás potatoes and the hornazo (an empanada with sausage and boiled egg) are some examples of the provincial gastronomy, as well as more local recipes like calderillo bejerano, a beef stew from the neighboring town of Bejar.

You also can’t miss the limón serrano, a type of salad with lemons and oranges with boiled egg and pork products, amongst other ingredients.

Wash all of this down with the fantastic wines of the area, among which we highlight the wines from Arribes, Sierra de Salamanca and Tierra del Vino de Zamora, all of which have Denomination of Origin.

And to finish your meal in La Alberca, try local desserts like leche frita and the nougat of Alberca, prepared with honey from the area. Also, if you prefer, have some pieces of the very good fruit that comes from the nearby mountains.

There are many places to eat at in La Alberca. For tapas we recommend going to Museo del Jamón. There are good wines and many hams with D.O. If you want to have the typical meneás potatoes you can go to El Balcón de la Plaza.

Another option for eating in La Alberca is Porrón, where they serve good pinchos with jeta, battered morro, lean pork, cod…at an economical price.

And, finally, we recommend La Nogal, situated at the entrance of the town where you can enjoy the nice weather on the terrace.

You’ll find many restaurants in La Alberca. At La Cantina de Elías, high quality and good service; good beef steaks from cows from the Sierra de Francia.

El Balcón de la Plaza, in an unbeatable location with views of the plaza itself, offers traditional cuisine with innovative touches; grilled meats with oak charcoal.

La Catedral, also in La Plaza, has well-prepared regional cuisine and a good quality-price ratio.

In the Salamanca center—La Alberca, Km.76 (1.5 km away), there is the restaurant Las Bóvedas at the hotel Abadía de los Templarios, where the head chef Pablo Samaniego prepares creative cuisine with in-season ingredients; large outdoor areas suitable for celebrations and other events.
