Among the secret places of Bizkaia, there is one place that has won us over. It is the top of Coliza Mount in Balmaseda-Valmaseda, with the incredible views it has to offer. From this exceptional location you can see vizcaínas, burgalesas and cántabras lands, and on clear days you can even see the Cantabrian. Close by you can find the romanesque hermitage of San Sebastián and San Roque as well.

The Museum of Old and Classic Cars

In Bizkaia there is a curious and unique museum of the world. It is located in the town of Galdames and it is the Museum of  Old and Classic Cars (a museum of old and classic cars). It is located inside a majestic fortress built in the Middle Ages but rebuilt in 1985. The museum consists of a tower, the tower of Loizaga, that is 25 meters high and surrounded by different rooms and a moat with a drawbridge and ramparts. The collection is considered one of the most unique in the world for having all the models of the Rolls-Royce brand.

Butrón Castle

The castle of Butrón is one of the symbols of Bizkaia. Recognized for its historical patrimony, its antiquity dates back from the 13th century. It was built in the Middle Ages by the Butrón family and it is currently the only ‘romantic style’ castle for sale in Spain. It is located in the town of Gatika, and despite its great historical value, it still has no owner. Although you can no longer go inside, Butrón Castle is undoubtedly one of our favorite secret places of Bizkaia. Horseback riding is also available in the area and around the Butrón River.

The cresting Anboto

Anboto Mount, in the region of Duranguesado, is one of the most important in the Basque Country, not only because of its geography but also for its meaning in Basque mythology. Legend has it that Anboto is the abode of Mari, the Queen of Nature. She supposedly lives in a cave near its summit, on the rocky wall and cliffs on its east side. They say that she is usually seen in the mouth of the cave on the days with good weather, combing her beautiful blonde hair in the sun with a golden comb. The ‘Lady of Anboto’ turns the mountain into an almost sacred place.

Among the secret places of Bizkaia, we highly recommend Artxanda Mount. It is not an ordinary mountain, because from here you can enjoy a privileged view of the city of Bilbao. It is the best place if you want to get the most beautiful panorama of the city and get a feel for the large city. It is also a very good place to go with children, since it has a large green space where they can play.
