Buitrago de Lozoya is located in the Lozoya river valley and it has the best preserved walled enclosure of the Community of Madrid. The powerful Mendoza family guarded behind those walls the princess Joanna, “La Beltraneja”, king Henry IV of Castile’s daughter.
In 1993 it was declared Historic-Artistic Site. There are a lot of places to visit in Buitrago de Lozoya, and it’s the starting point for a trip in the Lozoya valley, with many forest tracks and reservoirs.
