Sleep in Arzúa

Sleep in Arzúa

The Northern Way to Santiago and the French way coincide in Arzúa. Due to this, usually there are a lot of people trying to sleep in Arzúa during the warm months. This city is known because one stage of the Way to Santiago is called like it and because of a famous Galician cheese with designation of origin, the Arzúa-Ulloa cheese.

This is why the monument to cheese is one of the main local places to visit; it is also very recommendable to visit the Magdalena chapel (14th century).

The options to sleep in Arzúa are private hostels designated to pilgrim’s rest and country houses to stay a weekend in couple or with the whole family.

A really good option to stay near Arzúa is the Albergue Pensión Cima do Lugar, 23 kilometres away from Santiago de Compostela. It is a pension where you can stay in co-ed rooms with bunk beds and shared bathroom from 10€/person, you can also stay in double rooms with two beds and private bathroom from 45€/person. These rooms have all kind of services. Pilgrims think the hotel have the customer care and cleanliness as their priorities. It is on a par with a 3 stars hotel.

As second option to sleep in Arzúa, we recommend the Albergue Ultreia, and excellent hostel. It has large rooms where you can have sheets if you don’t want to use your sleeping bag. We read fantastic opinions about its restaurant and the pilgrim menu (9,90€) that they offer. It has a back terrace with sofas where you can enjoy spring afternoons and restock on energy.

Another good option to stop in the Way is the Albergue Via Láctea, near downtown. It has shared rooms from 8 to 20 people. Everything is clean and they take care of the details. Besides, it has a common room in each floor with two fully equipped kitchens. Pets are not allowed.

The last option is the Albergue Milpes, this lovely hostel is located in Ribadiso, in Arzúa surroundings and it has wonderful views. It is a really good option if you don’t have space in hostels in Arzúa downtown.

We are going to emphasize some special places to sleep in Arzúa different from pilgrims hostels.

On first place we have the Pazo de Santa María. If you are looking for a special place to stay with your partner, this is your option in Arzúa. The Pazo de Santa María has some stone mansions that form a small village in a wonderful environment. It has large rooms with chestnut wood beams. It is a peaceful place perfect to confront the last stage of the Way to Santiago.

Our second recommendation to sleep in Arzúa is the Casona de Nené, it is known for being the most stylistic pension on the Way. It is charming and tastefully decorated and everything is quite new. The hotel was inaugurated in 2015. 100 metres from the pension they have their restaurant where they serve breakfast. This restaurant is famous in Arzúa.
