Where to Stay in Getaria

Guide to sleep in Getaria

In the province of Gipuzkoa, the fishing town of Getaria, famous for its San Antón Hill and its unique mouse-shaped form, is also known for being the birthplace of Juan Sebastián Elcano, the first man to travel around the world. If you visit Getaria, you can’t leave without having some txakoli wine on Calle Mayor. Keep reading for a list of our favorite places to stay in Getaria to help you have the best stay possible.

Gaintza is our favorite option of all the places to stay in Getaria because of its location right near the beach and the fact that the hotel also has a vineyard and wine shop, offering a tour that will give you the chance to learn all the ins and outs of their wine.

Hotel San Prudentzio is another of our favorite places to stay in Getaria, located right near two beaches, a marina, and a street with great upscale restaurants. It is a five-minute walk from downtown Getaria and ten minutes from Zarautz. The hotel has ten rooms with huge windows from which you can take in views of the sea. If you can, request the junior suite, which has a hot tub.

In the same area as San Prudentzio you can find the Aingura-Basque Stay apartments, which has minimalist décor and a lounge with a glass wall. Like all of this chain’s apartments, the rooms are equipped with everything you’ll need for an excellent stay.

If you head towards the outskirts of Getaria, you’ll come across Hotel Azkue, which is similar to a motel. The good thing about this hotel is that if you’re traveling by car, it has easy access to all of the excursion locations in the surrounding area. The décor is modest, and it’s plain to see that the beds and furniture are a little worn.
