The urban nucleus of O Pedrouzo, located within the Arca parish, is the capital of the municipality of O Pino. This Galician administrative division can create some confusion for travelers. O Pedrouzo has been consolidated in recent years—together with Monte do Gozo—as the last place for hikers to stop before their eventual arrival in Santiago. Eating in O Pedrouzo-Arca allows travelers to stop and replenish their strength before the final push.
If there’s something essential to try in O Pedrouzo, it’s the piñeira rooster and hen. This breed originated in the O Pino region and, according to studies, was introduced by the celts. The birds are characterized by their spectacular plumage and are of a medium size, with cream-colored eggs that have a delicious flavor. Although they are smaller than normal chickens, they have more nutritional properties. The rooster weighs around 3 kilos and has meat that tastes similar to that of a pheasant. These products are so important that every first weekend of August the town’s inhabitants celebrate the Fiesta de Gallo Piñeiro y Muestro Caballar, an exaltation to food in general as well as this product in particular.

If you want to make a stop to eat during your walk in O Pedrouzo to eat some patatas bravas, try Bule Bic, a pension-restaurant located on Avenida de Lugo. They have the option of ordering gluten-free bread and beer and, if you would prefer to eat dessert, opt for their delicious homemade yogurt. You can also try O Km 19, a marvelous terrace to enjoy a glass of wine.
