The urban nucleus of O Pedrouzo, located within the Arca parish, is the capital of the municipality of O Pino. This Galician administrative division can create some confusion for travelers. O Pedrouzo has been consolidated in recent years—together with Monte do Gozo—as the last place for hikers to stop before their eventual arrival in Santiago. If there’s something essential to try in O Pedrouzo, it’s the piñeira rooster and hen. This breed originated in the O Pino region and, according to studies, was introduced by the celts. The birds are characterized by their spectacular plumage and are of a medium size, with cream-colored eggs that have a delicious flavor. Although they are smaller than normal chickens, they have more nutritional properties. The rooster weighs around 3 kilos and has meat that tastes similar to that of a pheasant. These products are so important that every first weekend of August the town’s inhabitants celebrate the Fiesta de Gallo Piñeiro y Muestro Caballar, an exaltation to food in general as well as this product in particular.

The Café-Bar-Panadería A Paneira is located at the center of the capital of the Municipality of O Pino, just 50 meters from the public hostel on Camino de Santiago. Perfect for the sweet tooth who wants to have a snack. If you prefer savory things, they also have sandwiches.

If you want to make a stop to eat during your walk in O Pedrouzo to eat some patatas bravas, try Bule Bic, a pension-restaurant located on Avenida de Lugo. They have the option of ordering gluten-free bread and beer and, if you would prefer to eat dessert, opt for their delicious homemade yogurt. You can also try O Km 19, a marvelous terrace to enjoy a glass of wine.

There are ample options for eating in O Pedrouzo when the distinct establishments in the surrounding area are considered. A perfect option is the Parrillada O Boi, where they offer many sandwiches, plates and meats at affordable prices. Beer lovers can find artisan beers there, a perfect refreshment, since not everything is about eating in O Pedrouzo-Arca.

On the main street you can find one of the locals’ favorite places to try a typical Galician dish: octopus. The Pulpería offers that and many other seafood delicacies, such as gambas al ajillo (Shrimp Scampi).
