Located next to the desert area that bears the same name, the hostile environment does not prevent the variety of what to eat in Tabernas. This municipality offers traditional Andalusian dishes such as gurullos (wheat flour pasta in the shape of a grain of rice), migas, porridge, gazpacho, ajillo de papas or soaps (cod and orange salad).
One of the star dishes of this town is wheat, a magnificent spoon dish composed of wheat, bacon, blood sausage, tail, vegetables and paprika. As a second course you can taste lamb or baby goat meat accompanied by a small “tabernero” garnish, a kind of vegetable ratatouille with pieces of morcilla or slaughter meat.
To continue with this wide culinary range you can enjoy the different desserts that you will find in the region such as the rosca de reyes, the donuts, the arroz con leche or the pork rind cakes. A very common accompaniment to desserts in the region is usually the mistela, a liquor made with grape must and alcohol that fits perfectly with the sweetness of the same. You can also take advantage of and try the famous Tabernas desert oil, which due to its minimal natural acidity is very beneficial for a rich and healthy diet.
