Eating in Alcalá de Henares

The locality of Don Quijote de la Mancha offers lots of delicatessen in the menu and in its tapas. Everybody has heard about its tapeo routes and its sweets but it also has a wide variety of high quality restaurants. Here are our recommendations:

Eating in Alcalá de Henares means trying traditional dishes. The city offers lots of dishes from the Quixote literature and it is one of the strongest touristic attractions of Madrid. The migas alcalaínas, the duelos and quebrantos are some of the best-known dishes that we can eat in Alcalá de Henares. There are also meat and fish dishes such as lamb and roasted lubina.

And if you’re a sweet lover, you can not stop trying the crust, designed by the Salinas pastry located in the Plaza de Cervantes and that was a provider of the Royal House. Other typical sweets are the donuts (rosquillas), the penitents and the almonds garrapiñadas.

Smell and taste selection is a good option if what we want is to eat in an original place. It is a gastrobar with a shop, which has organic DO Vino de Madrid wines both for drinking and for taking away. From the menu you definitely have to try the octopus and the gizzards, and do not forget to book before you go!

Author’s burgers and giant tostas are the star dishes of Rusty’s Tavern. With exceptional service, we recommend you also try their super full daily menu if you go during the week.

Delicatessen products and good wine are combined perfectly in the Vinoteca Esencias del Gourmet. Eating at the essential Vinoteca del Gourmet is the best option if you want to discover new sensations, since it offers pairing dinners where you can try different products and their possible combinations. If you are a real foodie, you can not leave the Vinoteca without tasting their croquettes and their Idiazabal cheese cake, delicious!
