Built on Celtic, Roman and Mozarabic ruins, Medinaceli is, in addition to history itself built with brick and mortar, the perfect setting for tasting typical Soria foods.
If you want advice regarding what to eat in Medinaceli, at its mesones, restaurants and bars, you can taste some of the traditional local dishes marked by the austerity of the land, such as alubias and judiones (different kinds of beans), which are stuffed with meat products or vegetables; the Castilian stew, with goose meat, garbanzos and various chacinas (cured meat); or, if you prefer, some migas accompanied by torreznos and chorizo.
Products derived from pork are largely present in the local gastronomic culture, which is why we invite you to try some of Medinaceli’s guisos like potatoes with ribs or blood, as well as the bull’s tail and the lamb, to which, in order to give it a slightly different flavor, they add a touch of thyme and rosemary during preparation. Another important food in the cuisine of Medinaceli are the mushrooms, which are collected in the outskirts of town during autumn and prepared in a thousand different ways, from grilled with garlic and parsley to incorporated into more robust stews with meat and potatoes. In Medinaceli you can also acquire their natural butter, salted or sweet, which has D.O.P. Mantequilla de Soria, native to the province.
