Fascinating lakes in Castile La Mancha to enjoy this summer

Lagunas de Ruidera

The Lagunas de Ruidera Natural Park is a protected area and one of the most important wetlands in Castile La Mancha. It was founded in 1979 and declared as Biosphere Reserve. Its lakes are connected by waterfalls. All of them are between Ciudad Real and Albacete. 

Blanca, Conceja, Tomilla, Tinaja, Redondilla and Salvadora are some of the lakes in Castile La Mancha you should go. Some of them are more crowded than others. Furthermore, the popular Cueva de Montesinos (Montesinos’ cove), where Don Quijote spent a night, is located in the area. Swimming is allowed in most of them so, if you are brave enough, dare to swim in the cold water!

Lagunas de Villafranca de los Caballeros, Toledo

This Biosphere Reserve is located between Madridejos and Alcázar de San Juan, in Toledo. The Lagunas de Villafranca de los Caballeros are formed by the Laguna Grande and Laguna Chica y Salare. The first one is perfect for swimming in summer. However, the second one is perfect to observe dozens of bird species flying over the landscape.

Tablas de Daimiel, Ciudad Real

Founded in 1973 and protected as Natural Park, the lakes of Las Tablas de Daimiel are a place to visit. Located in Ciudad Real, they are one of the most important wetlands of the Iberian Peninsula.

In addition to the amazing views, you can also distinguish the infinity number of bird species (some of them uniques in Europe). The over-exploitation of aquiferous is causing its extinction step by step. So, harry up if you want to enjoy it!

Laguna del Tobar, Cuenca

In the region of the Alto Tajo, in Cuenca, is located the Laguna del Tobar. It is surrounded by pine groves and beautiful villages. The place where you will enjoy a whole day in the heart of nature. There you can go hiking or cycling and enjoy the views.

Pozas de Marte, Guadalajara

These lakes also known as Cascadas de Aljibe (Waterfalls of Aljibe) are located in Guadalajara. Nestling in the Sierra de Ayllón, two perfect circular lakes have formed in the landscape. Would you like to visit them?
