Marzipan Chocolates Recipe, the best recipe to say goodbye to Christmas

Christmas has come to an end and, with it, it is time to say goodbye to all the Christmas sweets and hearty meals we have enjoyed during these days. Polvorones, turrones, roscón de reyes, alfajores, roscos de vino… There are many characteristic desserts that make these holidays more special and, of course, marzipan is one of them. That is why we suggest this recipe of marzipan chocolates to say goodbye in the best possible way to this very different Christmas.

It is a very easy and quick recipe. In fact, you can either make the marzipan dough at home or buy it already made; which makes it much easier to prepare. In addition, another advantage is that you can customize your marzipan chocolates with the ingredients and decoration that you like best; many add orange, nuts like almonds or walnuts, give them different shapes or make drawings… A perfect sweet to prepare with your family.

Ingredients for marzipan chocolates:

  • 250 g of ground almonds
  • 250 g of icing sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • Chocolate for coating (you can choose the one you like)
  • Water

How to make marzipan chocolates:

  1. Crack the eggs and separate the yolks from the whites in two bowls. Set aside.
  2. In a bowl, mix the ground almond with the icing sugar and the whites. Knead until the ingredients are well integrated and a compact dough is formed that hardly sticks. You can add a little water if needed.
  3. Make a ball with the dough of your marzipan chocolates and wrap it with cling film. Put it in the fridge and let it rest for a couple of hours.
  4. Once the time has passed, take out the dough and divide it into small portions to shape your chocolates. You can choose the shape you like best: balls, squares, figuritas, hearts…
  5. On a baking tray with parchment paper, place the shapes you have made with the dough; paint them with the egg yolks and bake them for about 5-7 minutes in an oven preheated to 180ºC. The idea is not to brown them, but to harden them and release any moisture they may have.
  6. While they are cooling, melt the chocolate you have chosen. You can do this in a bain-marie or in the microwave (at medium power and in batches of a few seconds so that it does not burn).
  7. With the chocolates already cold and the melted chocolate, dip each of them in the chocolate and leave them on a tray. You can draw shapes on your marzipan chocolates using a wooden stick, or decorate them with nuts such as almonds or walnuts. All this while the chocolate is still hot.
  8. When you have all the chocolates ready, let them cool down at room temperature and keep them in a covered container.
