Seasonal food of November

The seasonal food of November finds now its best month providing its best taste and scent; indeed, due to its high availability its price is much more affordable. To have a balanced diet we should eat varied foods that provide us with our needs of energy, carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins and minerals.

The consuming of fruits and vegetables is usually under recommended suggestions, for that reason we want to invite you to try these seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Fruits

Citrus fruits will be our great allies during this month, a supply of vitamin C that will come in handy to keep us protected from colds. Lemons, oranges, tangerines, kiwis and apples are all great carriers of this vitamin. Other fruits that we will find at their best are persimmon, grapefruit, custard apple, pomegranate, pear, banana, grapes and mango.

Generally we recommend to eat them raw, but there are many recipes in which we can cook them. Our suggestion for some recipes are pears in wine and apple tarts for the youngest of the family.

Vegetables

The vegetable garden brings great news in this rainy month. So we will be able to enjoy throughout the month of November vegetables such as chard, artichoke, celery, eggplant, broccoli, courgette, pumpkin, thistle, red cabbage, cauliflower, endive, peas, peppers and tomatoes. Most of these foods are ideal for making creams and broths to cope with the coldest days. Some of our recommendations are to prepare, for example, dishes such as thistle with clams or sautéed chard, two tasty dishes that will comfort us at the onset of cold weather.
