Madrigal de las Altas Torres is a rural village that in the past was the refuge of nuns and the residence of King John II of Castile. Many historical figures were born here, like the lyric poet Luis de León and Queen Isabella I of Castile. It probably owes its name to 100 defensive towers that surrounded the village. Today its main attraction is the Saint Nicholas Church.
